Modern Outdoor Ticketing Solution for Melbourne’s Iconic Observation Wheel
Located in the heart of Docklands, Melbourne Star Observation Wheel is one of Melbourne’s most recognisable tourism attractions. Standing at 120 metres tall, the giant observation wheel welcomes thousands of local and international visitors every year.
To improve customer experience and streamline ticket purchasing, Melbourne Star partnered with NEWTOUCH to design and deploy a fully integrated outdoor self-service ticketing kiosk solution.
The goal of the project was to create a reliable outdoor self-service ticketing system that could operate efficiently in a high-traffic public environment while integrating seamlessly with the customer’s existing software platform and payment infrastructure.
NEWTOUCH delivered both the hardware and software integration services for the project, providing a complete turnkey kiosk solution customised specifically for Melbourne Star’s operational requirements.
Outdoor Self-Service Ticketing Kiosk
NEWTOUCH supplied a custom-built 21.5-inch outdoor touchscreen kiosk designed for continuous public operation.
Key features included:
The kiosks were strategically positioned within the customer access walkway to provide convenient ticket purchasing for visitors before boarding.
One of the most technically challenging aspects of the project was the installation environment itself.
The kiosk location featured a sloped floor surface, which created stability and alignment challenges for a freestanding outdoor kiosk installation. To overcome this issue, the NEWTOUCH engineering team designed and manufactured a custom angled base solution that allowed the kiosk to sit level and securely on the inclined surface.
This custom engineering approach ensured:
The Melbourne Star project also required complex software integration work.
The customer’s ticketing platform was developed by a software provider based in the United States. NEWTOUCH worked closely with the overseas development team to complete:
The successful collaboration between the Australian and US teams ensured a seamless user experience from ticket selection through to payment and ticket issuance.
The completed solution delivered a modern, user-friendly ticketing experience for Melbourne Star visitors while reducing reliance on manual ticket sales operations.
Our solutions are built for reliability, usability, and long-term commercial performance.
